The Kansas City Chess Club

Do you have children in the Kansas City area who enjoy playing chess? You should consider joining the Kansas City Chess Club. Seriously. For $49 a month, your child will get to attend chess school every Tuesday night AND play other children and adults on Wednesday nights. A *private* half hour lesson is included each month as well as a tournament. I've enrolled Elf and Emperor in tournaments before and can attest to the fact that if you do enough of them, they get expensive. AND big families, listen up: brothers and sisters are FREE. (You only get one private chess lesson per month for the $49, though. Elf and Emperor are taking turns having their lessons.)

The super-savings really comes into play if you buy membership for a full year; for $500, you get everything mentioned above plus a T-shirt and a tournament chess set. I don't know if anyone local is reading but I thought I'd mention it just in case and talk it up a bit. We're hoping to go to nationals in November, too. Really. If you're interested in purchasing candles or little home decorating items to help our fundraising efforts, contact Laurie at alexnkadin@hotmail.com for info.

Can you tell we really enjoy the club and appreciate our teacher, Mr. Ken Fee? Yep. We do. Soon, I will do a post on a type of chess you might not know about called "Bug House." :) (picture courtesy of www.freefoto.com)

  1. Wow! Chess is awesome. Has it started yet? How did the kids feel about it when they knew they would be having chess lessons?

The good thing about the game is that the lessons aren't gonna be physically demanding AT ALL, and the room is going to be cool and comfortable, and the game is fun! Ha. I'm not really good at chess but I kinda enjoy it. I bet Elf and Emperor are going to enjoy it too!!! =]

  2. Thanks, Oliver! Since the chess LEAGUE has ended for much of the summer, it's been an easy transition. We see a whole different bunch of players we didn't see in the league. They are enjoying it very much, but that first week of learning to be QUIET during tournaments was difficult.

  3. $500 a year? Wow that's expensive. But worth it if the boys love it so much.
That is a really neat looking chess set.
